Rolling Ball

Hi,

Please refer to the figure given below. I want model this problem using ABAQUS.

A slab (elastic deformable) is resting on two balls (elastic deformable) on a flat surface (rigid). A support acceleration boundary condition is given to the flat surface on which the balls are being supported. I need to model the ball such that it is capable to both roll and slide i.e. I need to assign coefficient of rolling resistance and coefficient of sliding at the contact interface. After the dynamic analysis I will need to measure the acceleration response of the top slab.

I would appreciate if anyone can provide some tips on modelling this in ABAQUS.

 Thanks in advance.

Abaqus: Composite delamination with cohesive elements

$

Hello,

I have to do a FEA regarding impact damage and delamination propagation in a CFRP specimen.

I have to do this using cohesive element in order to see the propagation of the delamination front in the material.

My problem is that I don't know how to do this in Abaqus.

I'll better explain: I can use this software but is the first time approching composite behavior and I really don't know how to model that.

I've done many attemps (using cohesive element and tie constrains or cohesive interaction as well) but I've always faced problems about the implementation.

Can you tell me what is the right way to do this? Or if someone has already solved this issue, where can I found the solution?

Thanks for every help you could provide me,

Maria Pia

Hi,

I want to simulate Ice failure simulation in abaqus. In my problem, ice is deposited between 2 components.

While I am trying to move one compoents, the ice is restricting the movement of the components. Now I want to find out the force at which the ice starts to failure .

any methods are available n abaqus., Plz let me know if any body knows abt this kind of simulation.

Thanks in advance

"Incoming variable temperature is not referenced in the co-simulation configuration file for this model" Problem in abaqus 6.13

Hi all, I am student of final year mechanical engineering. I am a new user of Abaqus and currently working on co-simulation for my project. Actually what I am doing is prediction of heat transfer due to fluid_structure_interaction in a tube of known diameter also called as conjugate heat transfer.

I created model in Abaqus/standard named TUBE

Assigned properties

Created step "Dynamic, temp-disp, Explicit"

Defined inner surface of tube for interaction named FSI_surface

Completed all requirements up to Boundary conditions. I gave disp/rotation Boundry condition(U1=U2=U3=0) at one end of tube.

Similarly created model in Abaqus/CFD named FLUID, created part as fluid domain

Created step "Flow" with temperature tab on.

Defined boundary conditions,

BC-1: I gave fluid velocity at inlet conditions v3=-0.58 m/s(along the length of tube) and Temp= 423K

BC-2: outlet conditions P= 0
When I created Co-execution by taking these models and submitted for analysis it ran for couple of seconds showing that Job

A-FLUID: Analysis Input File Processor completed successfully.

Job A-TUBE: Analysis Input File Processor completed successfully.

and aborted showing  error

"Incoming variable temperature is not referenced in the co-simulation configuration file for this model.

An unrecoverable co-simulation error has been encountered.

The executable SMACfdMain.exe aborted with system error code 3. Please check the .dat, .msg, and .sta files for error messages if the files exist.  If there are no error messages and you cannot resolve the problem, please run the command "abaqus job=support information=support" to report and save your system information.  Use the same command to run Abaqus that you used when the problem occurred.  Please contact your local Abaqus support office and send them the input file, the file support.log which you just created, the executable name, and the error code. "

I have completely no idea what wrong as I have done all that what's required but still I'm left with this kind of situation. What should I do please help me.
thankx.

Why the VVF of GTN model within Abaqus keeps 0

I calculated an example of unaxial tension using GTN model offered by Abaqus. I followed all the instructions found in CAE User's and Analysis User's manual in Abaqus documentation. No error or warning was issued but the result seemed ridiculous, since VVF, VVFG and VVFN keeped 0 throughout the process while equivalent plastic strain keeped increasing(which showed the material had come into plastic deformation). I don't know what went wrong, looking forward to you reply.

Dear all
I urgently need the answer to my question. I am modelling a clapping or contact between two surfaces similar to a crack.
I have used abaqus : 1-tangential : frictionless  2-Hard contact
I wanna know what moelling approach does abaqus use for above situation ?
Does abaqsu use hertzian contac ? bilinear stiffness or what ?
Thank you

Modeling RVE with Interfaces

Hi All,

I am worling on developing an RVE (with interface) for a ceramic composite material. Interfaces are not load carrying members but help in increasing the fracture toughness of the material by deflecting a propagating crack into the interface. Because the interface does not help in load carrying, while we apply load (or displacement) on the RVE, should we apply it on the interface too? Here, I am applying a tensile load and I want to see matrix cracking followed by interface failure and then fiber failure. If load is applied on interface, then the stresses in interface are primarily tensile. But interface should fail in shear.

Can anyone help with appropriate boundary conditions?  Any references?

How to assign orientation for fibers in woven composite ?

Hello everyone,

I am working on textile composites. I have to assign local material orientation for the fibers. I have come across *ORIENT  subroutine in abaqus. But I am quite new to user subroutines. Is there any other way in which I can assign local material orientation to the fibers?
The fiber layout is such  that it has linear as well as sine part. Can anyone give some idea on how to create *ORIENT for such fibers?

Thanks

Beam elements in Abaqus

Hi every body,

I'm tring to make a beam by using beam elements in Abaqus like this:

      ----------------------------------------------------------

      ----------------------------------------------------------

      ----------------------------------------------------------

The upper half and lower half of beam have diferrent material properties. Due to some restrictions,  I can't model it as a composite beam so, I have to make a beam for upper half and another one for lower half and assemble them together somehow to work whole as a beam with two material properties.

Would you please let me know how can I do that?

Thanks in advance.

I defined coupling schemes, controls, time increments for CFD Model.

*Co-simulation Controls, name=FSI_Ctrls, coupling scheme=gauss-seidel, time incrementation=subcycle, time marks=yes, step size=export, scheme modifier=lag

but when I run analysis it gives error

in keyword *CO-SIMULATIONREGION, file "Co-execution-Z-Fluid.inp", line 2914: The keyword is misplaced. It can be suboption for the following keyword(s)/level(s): co-simulation

in keyword *CO-SIMULATIONREGION, file "Co-execution-Z-Fluid.inp", line 2918: The keyword is misplaced. It can be suboption for the following keyword(s)/level(s): co-simulation

I have attached the jpeg of input files how they look before and after running the analysis as it changes the commands sequence..

Kindly guide me how can I get rid of this error as I think it is last hindrance towards completion of my project.

can anyone guide me what is co-simulation engine mapping search failures in abaqus?? as i get this error while trying running co-simulation between AbaqusCFD and AbaqusStandard.

i have created CAE Model with single fin (mounted on tube) and tube as a single part and created partion wall along the edge of fin, Created CFD Model with fluid, assigned structured mesh.

Even file pre-processor completes successfully but it aborts showing "co-simulation engine mapping search failures in abaqus"

Anyone who have idea about this please help me.
